Green Workforce Demographics
The Greening Workforce – As the emerging green economy transforms industry and jobs, the Bureau of Labor Statistics is working closely with the U.S. Department of Labor and other key national agencies to understand the “greening” of industry sectors and to define emerging jobs and necessary skills.Workforce Strategies takes a good look at the emerging and evolving green industries and their employment patterns - including the skills and talent that are needed and will continue to be needed these jobs and skills take on a growing position in local economies. The success of such businesses include a variety of local factors, including the make-up of the workforce and it ability to effectively and quickly shift toward these evolving green services and products. Our consulting service assist companies and locations in understanding and meeting the green human capital requirement.
A good initial step in understanding local patterns and their capacity to shift toward greeness is through looking at our green occupation demographics. Delivered through our partner's technology solutions, this data show employment counts for occupations that have recently been designated and emerging as “going green”. (See Environmental Engineer map.) They include 119 occupations within local economies whose qualifications and skills are being transformed to meet green job requirements.
